Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. This is the first major entry in the Grand Theft Auto series since the 2008 Grand Theft Auto IV. The single-player story in the fictional state of San Andreas, based in southern California, follows three criminals and their attempted robberies, under pressure from a government agency and powerful criminal figures. The open world design allows players to freely roam the open landscape of San Andreas and the fictional city of Los Santos, located in Los Angeles.

The game is played from the perspective of a third person or first person and the world is approached on foot or by car. Players control the three main roles in a single player and switch between on and off missions. The story revolves around the assault series, and many missions include shooting and management games. A “prestigious” system regulates the aggression of police responses to players who commit crimes. Grand Theft Auto Online, the game’s online multiplayer mode, allows up to 30 players to participate in various competitive and collaborative game modes.

Game development begins shortly after the release of Grand Theft Auto IV and is shared by many Rockstar studios around the world. The development team was influenced by many of its previous projects, such as Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, and designed the game around three key players to innovate in the core structure of its predecessors. Much of the development work forms the creation of the open world, and several team members conducted field research in California to capture images for the design team. It was released in September 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in November 2014 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and in April 2015 for Microsoft Windows.

The game was marketed and widely anticipated, breaking industry records and becoming the best-selling product in history, with $ 800 million on the first day and $ 1 billion in the first three days.
