Hitman is a series of stealth video games developed by the Danish company IO Interactive and previously published by Eidos Interactive and Square Enik. IO Interactive remained a subsidiary of Square Enik until 2017, when Square Enik began looking for buyers for the studio, IO Interactive completed its management purchases, restored their independence and retained the rights to Hitman in June 2017. The series is available on Microsoft Windows and several video game consoles, including PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The franchise also includes two novels and a graphic novel: Hitman: The Enemy Inside written by William C. Dietz, and then Hitman: Curse written by Raymond Benson, as well as comedian Agent Agent 47: Birth of a Hitman.
The 2007 film adaptation, somewhat based on the game’s history, was received negatively, but it was financially successful. Another movie, Hitman: Agent 47, released in 2015, also received negative reviews.
The game revolves around Agent 47, a clone of contract killer, whose perfect record makes him a great demand of the rich and the elite, as he kills many high-ranking criminals around the world. The first screenwriter was Morten Iversen, who wrote the screenplay for Hitman: Codename 47 and Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. He also contributed to Hitman: contract and Hitman: money. The game contains a combination of scores of orchestral and electronic music, composed by Jesper Kid. The series’ fifth series, Hitman: Absolution, was released on November 20, 2012. The release was released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 under the name Hitman: Sniper Challenge. A spin-off game was launched for mobile phones and tablets, developed by Square Enik Montreal as a turn-based strategy game called Hitman Go. Another game released for mobile, Hitman: Sniper, consists of a first-person sniper game. The sixth game Hitman is released each week, the first episode launched in March 2016 and the last in December 2016. The seventh game, Hitman 2, was released in November 2018.
